Followmy.tv is a social network for television viewers. The application provides a number of fun ways to discover shows, re-discover past shows and celebrate the user’s love of TV programming. The application allows users to connect, much like other popular social networks. The user can see what their friends are watching. A live feed is also available on the Followmy.tv homepage so users can see what those in the community are viewing. Users can also discover air dates, friend activity and other information. A grid of top rated shows is presented on the homepage so users can see what is popular right now. Followmy.tv strives to keep its interface lightweight and user friendly, with organized show pages that feature outlines and important data.

Followmy.tv was conceived and created by Jasper Smet and Jelle Henkens. The pair decided to collaborate on the project, utilizing their years of experience with CakePHP framework applications. Followmy.tv is based in Belgium. The team currently includes Smet, Henkens and Julien Kervizic how handles business development.

Followmy.tv works much like other social networks, but adds appeal through its focus on television programming. Users who enjoy a good show or two (or more) can share their favorites, see what their friends are watching and learn about past and new shows. The application provides a good balance of socializing, information and features.

The Followmy.tv website welcomes users with a blue background and black logo highlighted by the silhouette of a television complete with rabbit ear antennas. A grid of top rated shows is also presented, displaying an image for each show. Show overviews provide organized information along with colorful headers for each program. The user’s dashboard is easy to read with activity listed in the right hand sidebar and the user’s viewing plans (watched and unwatched programs) highlighted in shades of green at the center.

A new user can join the Followmy.tv community by clicking the blue and white “Sign Up” button along the top, left hand side of the homepage. The registration form asks for a username, password, email address, date of birth, country location and time zone. After submitting the form, the user is advised that a link has been sent to their email and must be accessed to finish registration. The message can take up to ten minutes to receive.

Followmy.tv is available to all users for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for accessing the site’s features. This is definitely a good thing to encourage more users to sign up and become active members of the community. There are no premium membership options currently available. If the user likes Followmy.tv, they can choose to donate to help keep the site up and running. There are no donation requirements to maintain an account. The site does not use advertising, either, so users are encouraged (but not required) to donate.
